2013 Update

Things that are happening these days:

• Hudson loves preschool. He's also pretty good at drawing castles.
• Sawyer is rockin' the potty training, and enjoys reading books on the toilet (so proud!).
• James is going back to school...for Business Time
• Darlene craftier than ever. You should see the friggin' TARDIS BLANKET she made. So sauce.

Infrequent Update #3, Lame Edition

We really should write more, but usually we're too busy having fun with the kiddos. Here's a fun picture of Sawyer:

Oh Hudson...

I love my Hudson! He is so cute. He is talking up a storm these days. Tonight we were on our way home from my parents house and he kept saying "Mommy, Listen" and I would say "I'm listening, what's up?" then he would start telling me everything that he did at Nana's house and when he felt that I wasn't paying attention he would say "Mommy, Listen" again. He is so funny. He had me smiling the whole way home. I think I'll keep him.

Infrequent Update #1

As usual, It's Been Awhile™ since our last post. If you read this blog with any regularity you won't be surprised.

Hudson and Sawyer are doing well. Hudson likes Sawyer very much, and often asks if he can hold his little brother, though we're still teaching him to be "gentle." I'm finding this is a word with very fluid definitions for a toddler (for example, sometimes "gentle" means "punch in the head").

Sawyer smiles and coos a lot, which is totally brutal. Stops my heart every time. And he's a pretty easy baby, unless Mom eats any chocolate. Sawyer apparently does not like chocolate in his milk. It makes him very angry. So Darlene's off the choc for the time being, much to her consternation and sorrow. I try not to eat too much around her so as not to rub salt in the wound.

Hudson talks a lot, much of it difficult to decipher. It's not that he has his own language per se, but that his little mouth still has a hard time forming certain sounds, like "ess" sounds and "wuh" and "yuh" sounds. These are generally substituted with a "duh" sound. So his uncle Sam is actually uncle "dam", which is really great when he yells "dam!" in a crowded room. I need to get some of that on tape, as they say.

In other news Darlene and I are doing the weight watchers thing, which I DO NOT LIKE. AT ALL. But I'm doing it, because I want to lose weight, get healthy, all that. I have to turn it into a game where my daily points are like super valuable resources and I find the most efficient way possible to use them. Darlene rolls her eyes a lot at this, but she's nursing so she gets 10 more points than me! Maybe if I had a 10-point buffer I'd be a little more cavalier about my eating habits too, but I don't have that luxury.

One thing I've found is that plain nonfat greek yogurt is a miracle food. One cup of the stuff is only 2 points and like 20 grams of protein, so it's really satisfying and it works in lots of things. The other night I made a cream of broccoli soup and used greek yogurt instead of cream. I ended up with like a 1 or 2 point soup that was amazingly tasty and filling. Next week I'm going to try making tuna salad with greek yogurt instead of light mayo. I could end up saving like 2 whole points on that. I have to do this. I have to stretch these points or I will lose my mind and buy like seven cheeseburgers at Five Guys.

Halloween And Other Pictures

Happy Halloween, everyone! Here's our boys in their costumes (chef and pumpkin):

My turn

James told me it's my turn to update the blog. Well I'm not very good at pictures and I don't tell very good stories and I have so much on my mind these days I don't even know where to begin. So I will start with something happy, Hudson. He does the cutest things ALL the time. Here are a couple of things that make me smile:

- He loves to dance. He will point at the radio and start hopping around, or if James is around he will pat the piano bench then start playing (and sometimes sing too). He has very good rhythm. It is a blast to watch him. One of these days we are going to get it on video.

- He is obsessed with cooking. His favorite toys are his pots and pans and mini stove that he will move from place to place and stir and taste. The other day he had everything set up on the piano bench and it looked like he was doing a cooking show. He will even clean up after himself when he is done by wadding up the little pot holder I made for him and wipe everything down after putting his dishes away.

He can be a little stinker though. He jabbers all the time and occasionally I hear a word or two but most of the time it is just gibberish. Other times he will randomly copy words that I say. The other day I asked if he was going to help me put on my socks and he said plain as day "sock". Later that day I asked him to say "sock" for me and he just looked at me and laughed. He does that all the time. He just doesn't want me to know how smart he is I guess. I keep saying that he is waiting to talk until he can form complete sentences. For now his very rough (self-invented) sign language is all he will do when he wants something.

Well it is way past my bedtime and I have to get up entirely too early in the morning so I'm going to wrap this little post up. Nighty night.
